Shane M., Director of Nursing

Hello, my name is Shane, and I am the Director of Nursing at Hickory Treatment Center in Kingman. I am a Registered Nurse with 23 years of experience in various areas of nursing, including long-term care, ICU, and other clinical settings. Nursing has always been a calling for me, driven by a deep desire to help people in meaningful ways.

I was drawn to work at Hickory due to a personal loss within my family related to addiction. That experience made me acutely aware of the importance of providing care to individuals in acute crisis, especially those struggling with addiction. I believe that offering compassion, empathy, and care in these moments can be life-changing for patients, and it’s incredibly rewarding to witness the difference it can make. My mission is to provide a supportive, healing environment where patients can begin their journey to recovery.

Nancy A., Primary Therapist

My influence in deciding to become a therapist began during my career in law enforcement.  I transitioned into therapy after witnessing many individuals being judicially punished for SUD. I believe a clinical setting with compassionate therapy offers a more promising approach for those needing help rather than punishment.

In July 2024, I chose to join Hickory Behavioral Center because of its mission statement and the genuine connection I felt with the interview team. My path to becoming a Primary Therapist at Kingman Hickory Behavioral Center follows over eight years of experience and education, including an M.A. and M.S. and a LASAC license. At Hickory, I value the privilege of accompanying individuals on their journeys to more fulfilling lives. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and love to travel. Through my dedication and passion, I strive to make a significant impact, one journey at a time.

I chose to pursue a career in addiction counseling to help individuals overcome life’s challenges and achieve lasting success. My passion lies in supporting others through their struggles, empowering them to break free from addiction and embrace the opportunity for growth and self-discovery.

The most fulfilling aspect of my work is witnessing the profound transformation that occurs when people rediscover their potential and take control of their lives. I am dedicated to guiding individuals toward recovery by providing the tools and support they need to lead healthier, more meaningful lives.

Is Treatment The Next Step For You

Determining if drug and alcohol rehab is the right choice can be challenging. Treatment is essential for anyone who finds that substance use is negatively impacting their health, relationships, work, or daily activities. It’s particularly crucial for those who have made repeated attempts to reduce or stop their use unsuccessfully, or who experience withdrawal symptoms when not using. If substance dependence is causing distress and hindering your quality of life, seeking professional help can be a transformative step. Remember, it’s not about how much you use, but how it affects your life.
